Discussion:
Consensus on What are “Back Office” Duties?
Broad duties were enumerated in our 2019
industry survey…
CCRO ”Governance” White paper 2002:
Some detailed examples as mentioned by
one member’s back office lead:
…it can be very difficult to settle invoices with the
changing variables in contracts, for example the
added rider on AMA contracts this winter. This just
complicates the process and without the
understanding of this and the appropriate training
and experience, could lead to errors in payments.
…calculation of wacogs for gas storage and how this
is accounted for and ultimately charged to ratepayers
…understanding collateral calls
…hedging settles and timing of those settlements
…pricing on gas and electric contracts and how they
are applied each month, or if there is an annual true
up requirement,
…ISO settlements
…REC payments and being aware that prior to
processing a payment being certain those REC’s
have been banked by NGrid
These is some of the items the team deals with on a
monthly basis.
